Ashley Finch, along with her parents, Nick and Angela, and older sister, Amber, landed in San Diego, CA the afternoon of Tuesday, August 14th. The next morning, Ashley’s face filled with excitement when she realized that “today’s the day!” that her wish, which was so generously granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, would finally come true!
After a bit of sight seeing that morning along Harbor Drive looking at the beautiful boats and massive military sea vessels, the Finches returned to their hotel for Ashley to get her hair, make-up, and outfit choice just right for her magical wish moment when she would meet her three favorite guys – The Jonas Brothers!
The limousine arrived at the hotel at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15th, to transport Ashley and her family to Viejas Arena where the Jonas Brothers were scheduled to perform their next to the last concert on their 2013 reunion tour. The Finch family was driven directly to the backstage area of the arena and escorted in by Aimee from Make-A-Wish San Diego, and a Jonas Brothers staff member, Chris. Upon entering the backstage area, the sounds of guitars, keyboards, and drums could be heard, along with the unmistakable sound of the Jonas Brothers as they were busy onstage doing sound checks. Ashley was able to observe the Jonas’ at work from the side of the stage, where every now and then she would get a glance from Nick Jonas (her favorite Jo-Bro!) and a quick wave “hello” from Joe Jonas.
Finally, it was time. The moment she had been waiting and wishing for! The Jonas brothers exited the stage and walked directly over to Ashley, who was still seated in her wheelchair that she uses for long walks. First, she got a hug from Joe Jonas, then Kevin Jonas, then…”Mom, mom, I want to get up out of my chair!” Ashley insisted, so that she could give Nick Jonas a great big hug. In return, Nick Jonas gave Ashley his guitar pick, which was guarded as if it were a one carat diamond for the rest of the week! After lots of hugs and excitement, the Jonas Brothers posed for pictures with Ashley, and then with the whole Finch family. Ashley was given Jonas t-shirts and a tote bag, which were autographed “To: Ashley!” You can bet that these memorabilia will be treasured forever!
Following the one-on-one meet and greet, Ashley and her family attended the Jonas Brothers Sound Check Party with a larger group, which included music, a question and answer session, and even a serenade by the crowd of “Happy Birthday” to Joe Jonas, who was turning 24 years old the next day.
The Finches then enjoyed the full Jonas Brothers concert, where Ashley sang every word of every song along with her favorite boys. According to her, “They are even cuter in person and they were very sweet, too!” After the show was over, the family was picked up again by limo and returned to their hotel.
The next couple of days in San Diego were spent at the San Diego Zoo, and San Diego Zoo – Safari Park. Ashley enjoyed seeing lots of animals, but her favorites were the panda and koala bears. She even came home with three stuffed animals of her own – a koala she named “Kevin”, a bear she named “Joe”, and a monkey she named “Nick” – now she can hug the Jonas Brothers anytime!
